NOEMA

The topic of my bachelor thesis was Stille (silence). Since it is neither black nor white, but has infinite nuances in between, I used both sound and colour to create a metaphorical, poetic interpretation of it.

Contrasts in balance

There is nothing like absolute silence, not even in the most remote places or outer space. There’s just the almost nothing. Which is why for this project I explored the duality of distance and closeness, stillness and movement, as well as how something can be at once sonorous and silent.

Noema derives from the Greek word νόημα meaning "mental object" – a thought, sense, disposition, intention, decision, intellectual power. It is also used as a technical term in phenomenology to stand for the content of a thought – a perception. Inspired by all of these elements, I created a personal short film based on the idea of a daydream, reflecting inner silence – finding freedom, an unlimited space in quiet introversion. A space where the mind can expand, and perception changes.
